Extend Standing Forward Bend follows Standing Forward Bend in the Sun Salutation or mini Sun Salutation. The pose has a back bend element to it. What does that mean? You drop the top of your sacrum and lower back into a back bend as you arc your spine into the forward lifting of your chest and head.
Quit often we inadvertently compress the back of the neck when looking forward. To avoid compressing your neck, try these variations:
- Place hands on thighs (just above your knees) or on blocks
- Bend your knees and place fingertips on floor or block
These variations will allow you to keep your chest open and lifted and avoid a pinching or jamming feeling at the base of your spine. Watch a video to see how this works:
