Being the Studio Manager, I get to talk with people interested in yoga every day. It’s easy talking about something you love. There are many people out there who have never done yoga before. One day a friend invites them to a class, a coach or a health provider recommends them yoga and their journey begins. The ways in which people arrive at starting yoga are numerous. The best part is that I get to help them on that journey when they decide to pick up the phone or send an email.
This first step in many cases requires great courage. Often times, individuals are intimidated by fear of failure. They view yoga as something to master rather than a journey where we learn along the way.
Many ask, “Will I get a good workout?” Absolutely! Many of the sequences build muscular strength requiring the individual to hold poses against resistance and maintain stability.
Others ask, “Will I be able to keep up?” Yoga from the Heart offers a wide range of classes geared toward beginners.
Common questions are often of a practical nature. “How much is a class?” Single classes begin at $15 but the best package with the most bang for the buck is our “New to Yoga Package”, a one hour private and 6 classes. The one-on-one prepares you for your first public class. In this setting, the beginner can ask questions without the fear of looking stupid.
We all want to look good while being comfortable, and people often wonder, “What should I wear?” Unlike many exercise regimens we do it barefoot. Leave your shoes at the door. Wear clothes that allow you to move.
Many of us must balance a budget as well as a busy work schedule. “Do you have evening classes?” It is important with all the stresses we face to unwind before we get home. We have classes scheduled at times meant to be convenient for the worker bee.
And finally, “Where are you located?” Convenience is important with time being at a premium. Located right off of 41, the studio sits strategically within the commuters’ path. Trader Joe’s and Starbuck’s have been great landmarks when I guide clients to us here.
Yoga’s benefits are immeasurable so spread the word. For those of us comfortably seated within the yoga community we can do a great deal to spread the word. We can educate our friends, and remove the misconceptions surrounding this beautiful practice.
If you are interested in exploring yoga, we welcome you to our beginner classes. We also have two workshops scheduled this month that would be perfect for beginners. There are two opportunities to take Beginner Basics, an in-depth introductory workshop led by Lynn Burgess and Steve Lang – Saturday, January 11 from 1 – 2:30 pm and on Saturday, February 1 from 1-2:30 pm.
