Going to the annual Yoga from the Heart Retreat at Sanibel Harbor Marriott Resort and Spa is a ‘treat’ I give myself each year. You might want to make it an annual gift you give yourself, too. Here are 6 good reasons why:
IT’S A FUN WEEKEND GETAWAY. The first couple of years I attended the yoga retreat because it was a great getaway for my family and me. The Sanibel Harbor Marriott Resort and Spa is a beautifully serene hotel where you can just get away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. My son and husband would cool off at the pool while I practiced yoga at the fitness center a short walk from the main hotel. As our son grew older, my husband and I would come by ourselves so that we could have time alone when I was not in yoga class.
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A ‘YOGA PRO’ TO GO. You don’t have to be an advanced yoga student to attend a weekend retreat. You just need a willingness to try. Yoga is not about comparing yourself to others. It is about accepting yourself where you are at that moment. The retreat is a great opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive community.
IT’S A CHANCE TO MEET OTHER YOGA-LOVING PEEPS. Yogis from all over the United States come to Sanibel to practice with Lynn Burgess, Kris Galea and Steve Lang, three wonderful teachers who each bring to the mat their own amazing gifts of teaching yoga. The annual Yoga from the Heart retreat is a great way to meet other yogis you might not meet at the studio.
FINDING ‘ME’ TIME IS AN OPTION, TOO. There are breaks in the daily schedule that allow time for spa treatments, walks on the beach or sitting by the pool. Or naps!
IT MAKES GETTING ON THE MAT EASY. Practicing yoga at retreat meant that, for one weekend out of the year, there was no need to worry about leaving work early enough so that I got to class on time, or rushing home after class, wondering what I was making or picking up for dinner. It was my time to truly immerse myself into my yoga…..and, no distractions!
YOU JUST MIGHT CREATE A LASTING HABIT OF INNER PEACE. If you want to get stronger or more flexible, practicing yoga can help you do that. But, I also practice yoga because it is the best way that I have found to relieve everyday stress. On days when I feel really stressed, I remember how balanced and centered I felt after the last yoga retreat weekend, and I try to recreate that
feeling. This experience has given me the tools I need to feel bliss whenever I need it no matter what is happening in my life.
